Happy first days of summer. Living in Virginia for 10 years, I have a deep and abiding love for fireflies. There is something so magical about dusk and the first hints of fireflies. We used to find them easily in our yard.

In Utah, I’m not so lucky. But that doesn’t mean I can’t make a firefly quilt! And guess what, so can you. ;). This quilt was designed by Lindsey Neill of Pen and Paper Patterns, and is new and exclusive to Pattern Drop!
Pattern Drop is hosting a 6 week Quilt Along–Mike is thinking this might be just the pattern to make himself a quilt.

I love this pattern and definitely want to be part of the QAL. I’m assuming that we can use our own fabrics.
Yes, of course!
This is such a cute pattern! SO excited to get it and get to quilting!
Yes I want this pattern! Fireflies are one of my favorite things!!
This quilt is darling! I also live in Utah and saw fireflies for the first time last night in Spanish Fork. I was beyond excited.
I still can’t believe you saw them in Utah!
I want to quilt along, but I want to make bees – what are the fabric requirements for the alternate pattern? Is someone doing a kit for bees??
E
Would you be able to say which of the Michael Miller fabrics were for which pieces so we can purchase the correct amounts? I like the original colorway.
Someone in another comment mentioned an alternate pattern with a bee motif. Is there one? If so, I am definitely in!
These fireflies are so adorable! I wasn’t aware of the subscription until I saw this and I subscribed right away. I can’t wait to start this one!
What is the size of this quilt? Block size?
18.5” block size, 72” x 72” quilt
I just realized I was wrong. Quilt size is the same, block is trimmed to 17.5 square, with a small border around the entire quilt! Thx-katie
Is it possible to buy this pattern without subscribing? I wish I could, but I’m a poor college student right now, haha!
Yes–you can purchase it here without a subscription. http://patterndrop.com/product/firefly-quilt-pattern/
Love love love…although they aren’t fireflies they are lightning bugs. 😉
I’m from NYC and we call them Lightning Bugs, too. When I was a kid, we used to put them in jars with holes poked in the lid. It’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this pattern!
WOW ! Love them both . So adorable . I want to join but will be first of July before I can when I get Disability Check . Will that be to late to join ?
You can join in at any time!
I would love to do the QAL, but have family coming to town during that time, will the QAL be recorded to watch later?
I’m pretty sure there isn’t a video tutorial. The QAL usually just has everybody working on the same step in the same week. Cheers! It’s going to be a really cute quilt!
How big will the quilt be when finished?
Roughly 72” x 72”
I have the same question. I will be in China for all of July. Is there a way to view the videos a bit later?
Hi-
Sorry, I get the comments emailed to me and had been replying to all of them via email. I didn’t realize the replies weren’t showing up here. Most of the Quilt Along information will be text and images, and will be here on the blog. Any video will also be available for viewing at any time.
Could you tell us the yardage requirements for each of the Michael Moore Coiture fabric colors. I also like the original color way.
Hi Katie, I have the same question as Paula. I love the original colorway. Love the bees too. You are so talented!
Hope this helps!
hi! I forget that if I reply to email, it doesn’t show up in the comments.

I think the binding was starfruit, but I honestly can’t remember and don’t have the quilt in my possession anymore!

I purchased the preorder of the individual pattern on June 25th, I believe I seen where a separate email would be sent in July to download the pattern, can you tell me when that is? Cause I can not see that date anywhere?
Thank you,
Hi! I sent you an email yesterday from [email protected] with instructions on how to attach. I also sent an email in response with the pattern attached. happy sewing.
Is the QAL only available to members
To make this quilt, do I need to be proficient at paper-piecing?
Or is it regular piecing? Thank.
Great. I’m in!! How do I get the pattern. I’m stash busting so I will use my own fabrics. Thank you, Katie.
I purchased the pattern, BUT, I am not receiving or finding where the quilt along is…..help please! Thanks.
